The winter athletic season is HERE! Here is some information on attending/watching events!
๐All home events will be streamed live for free on the NFHS network! All you will have to do is create a free account in order to watch. The link to our NFHS page is https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/south-prairie-high-school-minot-nd
๐We can have a maximum of 300 fans in attendance and 25% will be for visitors fans. If you want a pass to a game, you can stop at the office to get a pass, or call the school and get on a will call list to pick up a pass at the game. This is first come, first served! If you want to attend any games over Christmas break, you need to contact the school by Friday, December 18th at 3:30 p.m. to get a pass.
๐After Christmas break, the tickets will become available week by week!
๐Masks are REQUIRED at all events.
๐Many schools in the area are also using the NFHS network. If they are NOT, we will update you weekly on where you can watch the games. Through January 4th, all away games will be streamed on that school's NFHS page.

Students in grade 9-12 are only required to be at school Thursday and Friday for their final exams. Even classes are Thursday, December 17th and odd classes are Friday, December 18th.

FFA Fruit arrives Monday, December 14th. Members who sold fruit need to make plans to pick it up Monday after school at the new Ag shop, north of the HS Office door. Advisors will be on hand to help until 8:00 pm. Anyone who ordered fruit who would like to pick it up directly from the school, please let Mr. Seidler know so we may prep your order. You may e-mail Benjamin.Seidler@k12.nd.us or call the school. Please leave a message if there is no answer.

South Prairie FFA and Sources of Strength have teamed to do the Donate December competition. We usually collect food items to put together meals for our Christmas Wish Dinner program and then deliver them the last day of school before the break. However, due to COVID, we have decided to still have a competition school-wide but instead of donating food items, students can donate cash. We will then determine our winners by how much each class raised. We will give away a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize. Our goal is for our school, PK-12, to raise $1,000 with donations and $1500 overall. FFA has already agreed to donate $500. The proceeds will be used to give each family in need all the ingredients for a nice Christmas Dinner.
We ask that students take their donations to their 1st hour teacher. Thank you!

๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐/๐๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ข๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐ค๐ฌ:
This is a clarification regarding the Governor's recent executive order. The statewide mask mandate includes all schools in the state. This means masks must be worn at all times. The only exception is during physical education class.
As a school district, our goal is to support the academic and social/emotional well-being of our students. For the next four weeks, I'm asking for your support to ensure we follow these rules and keep our kids in school for in-person learning. Those parents/students choosing to not follow the Governor's mask mandate will be allowed to enter into the distance learning instructional delivery platform. Thank you for your patience and support.
-Mr. Stanley

SOUTH PRAIRIE SCHOOL-
Parents-
Due to Governor Burgum's executive order late Friday at 10:00 p.m. The order addresses a statewide mask mandate as well as the postponement of K-12 school district extracurricular activities, we are going to wait until further clarification is provided on Monday afternoon. This will give some time for the school district and school board to address any potential changes in the South Prairie School District operations. The school district will communicate all changes as they are enacted so parents and families are aware of revisions to our current school health and safety plan from the state or school board level.
On Monday, November 16, we encourage students and staff to wear masks and to social distance, staying at least 6 feet apart. We will NOT hold any extra curricular practice on Monday. Thank you for your continued support of South Prairie School.

Parents-
With the start of the new nine weeks beginning tomorrow, I want to take a minute and remind everyone to continue to monitor your childrenโs health. Looking back on the 1st nine weeks of the school year, our ability to stay in person is directly related to your commitment of monitoring your children prior to sending them to school.
With flu season upon us, it is important that you continue to be active in keeping an eye on your childโs health. Knowing that we are not only monitoring for COVID-19 but also the common cold and flu will help ensure the health and safety of all of the children and staff.
Remember if your child is not feeling well, please keep them home and logged into the Teams App if they are able to.
Please remind them to wear a mask when they are unable to social distance(on the busses and in the hall ways), With CDC guidelines being followed, this one simple act will keep them and their classmates from being required to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.
Thank you for your continued support of South Prairie School and the entire staff.

Good luck to the Max/Garrison/South Prairie runners as they compete today at the State Cross Country Meet in Jamestown.

Parent-teacher conferences are still scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (October 26th and 27th) from 4:00-7:00 p.m.! We have adjusted a few things to keep it safe, but still want parents to have an opportunity to come to the school for conferences!

-All teachers will hold conferences in their classrooms (signs will be posted for teachers who donโt have their own rooms).
-Wait in the hallway until the parent before you is done with their conference.
-Limit conference time to no more than 15 minutes.
-If you donโt want to attend in person, you can email your childโs teacher to schedule a Zoom call or phone call.

For example, if your child is in elementary school, you should make sure "South Prairie School District" and "Elementary School" are both checked.
*Important alerts for the whole school are also sent via text message (main contact number listed during registration), email, and on the school website and social media pages.

We are sending this message to notify everyone that a positive case of COVID-19 has been reported in the high school building (9-12th grade). If you have not already been notified, your child is not considered a close contact and you do not need to take any further action. This is an informational message to keep everyone updated.
As we stated in our smart restart plan, we fully anticipated there would be positive cases. School will continue to operate on Instructional Plan #2, with students and teachers in class and offsite students attending from home.

During this time of so much uncertainty, we have been waiting to ask for your ideas and concerns and opinions until we received more information and guidance from the state. As we make decisions toward beginning in the fall, we are asking your opinion in regards to what our restart may look like.
Our priorities are to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff and provide the best learning opportunities possible for our students.
Please know that your ideas, concerns, and opinions are deeply valued. We know that there is not a simple or perfect solution, and we are doing our very best to meet the needs of the students, staff, and community as we move forward with developing a plan.

Last March, Governor Burgum closed schools for in-person instruction due to concerns about COVID-19. He directed schools to serve their students via distance learning โuntil further notice."
The Governor amended his order on June 1st to allow schools to have summer school and to provide daycare as long as it was in groups of 15 or less.
We are in frequent contact with the ND Department of Public Instruction and the Governorโs office trying to find out what schools will be allowed to do in August.
Yesterday, the Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction released the ND K12 Restart Guide. This is a guide for local districts to start the planning process for educating students this fall. Within the guide is the requirement to update our Offsite Learning Plan and Develop a written Health and Safety Plan with our local Health Department.
With the guidelines laid out, we will begin the process of rewriting our Offsite Learning Plan, as well as work with the Health Department on a Health and Safety Plan. In this process, we will be asking for input from parents and community members. Please keep an eye out for these surveys as your input is greatly needed.
We know how difficult this uncertainty is for many of you. Rest assured that as soon as we have brought our team together and worked through the ND K12 Restart Guide, we will communicate our plan to all of you. If you have specific questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Kolbi Rolle, South Prairie senior, will be on KHRT 1320 AM at 11:15 a.m. today to talk about graduation!

Here is a message from Mrs. Hiltner about library books that are checked out and the success of the pop tab collection:
This is the updated library list of books still checked out from the SP library and the bookmobile. Please check to see if you have books checked out and return them ASAP when lunches are delivered. The new total for SP is 122 books. Itโs getting better but we still have a long ways to go. Thank you to those who have already returned books. Much appreciated!
Also, here is a note from the Garrison ND American Legion & Auxiliary Post 49. South Prairie Royals are a part of this too!
โThank you and congratulations! Garrison Post 49 had the highest count for Pop Tab Collections 2020, with 93,312, or 57.06 tabs. Thank you to all the Garrison students who have brought in tabs, and for the community members who have saved for us. Great job. Since there will be no Department convention this is the count for the year. Our Department Children and Youth department goal is 1 million, so letโs get a good jump on that number for next year. All proceeds from the tabs go to the Ronald McDonald house and they really appreciate our efforts.โ

We have some updated information on grading for students in grades 6-12! Please watch this video from Mr. Routledge and read the following details!
https://youtu.be/x8caGXi0w5Y
Parents:
As a reminder, all teachers post assignments for the week on their Teacher Page (on the school website, go to โMenuโ -- โTeacher Pagesโ -- search for the teacherโs name -- click on the class your child is in). By viewing the Teacher Pages, you will be able to see all assignment details.
All assignments are also added and updated in Powerschool. We encourage you to use this to stay updated with your childโs work and what they are turning in. Please use PowerSchool to review your childโs current progress by going into each individual class to see the work they are completing as well as what work is missing. You can easily contact any teacher by โclickingโ on the teachers name, which will open an email communication window. You can also contact the school for assistance.
Students:
Students are still expected to complete assignments for each of their classes using Microsoft Teams and check in to their classes according to the schedule.
During this time of distance learning we want to ensure that all students have every opportunity to complete their assignments for full credit. Starting April 20th, you will see โzerosโ entered for missing assignments that are two weeks past due. Please know that students will have the opportunity to complete all late assignments for full credit.
Thank you for your support and patience as we work together to support students during this time of distance learning.

Students in grades 6-11: South Prairie School is expanding! To meet the needs of our students, we are looking to add to our Agricultural Education curriculum. Please take this short survey to help guide which courses should be taught at our school. Agricultural Education is a vast discipline that includes many different careers both inside and outside of agriculture, so please take the time to complete the survey even if you have never taken an Agricultural Education class. If you complete this survey, you will receive bonus points from your English teachers! (If you already completed the survey a couple weeks ago when it was sent out, you will need to do it again to receive bonus points.)

With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Ward County, we ask that parents please place a cooler or box on your front steps so that the packets and meals can be placed in them, reducing the amount of contact we have with each other.ย The packets and meals picked up at the YMCA will be placed in boxes/bags on the sidewalks, with family names on them.
Thank you for your continuous support and cooperation!

Update (April 7th): Just a reminder that on Friday, April 10th and Monday, April 13th, there will be no school. Students do not need to check in on these days and lunches won't be delivered!
Mrs. Hiltner sent library books home yesterday with lunches. If you want to request any books, contact her through e-mail. You do have to return any books you have first. See her Teacher Page on the school website for more information!

South Prairie families,
With COVID-19 happening right now, the yearbook is going to be missing certain pages of events and groups. With that said, we would like for you to send us some pictures of the distance education going on at your house to go on these empty pages. We understand some families have multiple kids, but please only send 1 or 2 pictures of your family so we can make sure we have plenty of room for everyone. It can be funny, serious, or whatever you would like to send!
To upload photos, use the following link and upload them! This link can also be found on the main menu of the school website. You will have to create an account, if you havenโt done so already. Upload them to the section that's labeled, "Covid-19."

Update (March 30th): Instructional packets were delivered today! Students, make sure you read through everything and plan for what you need to work on for the week.
Students in grades 6-12, make sure you look at the schedule and check in to your classes on the correct days to be counted present. Your teachers will have a post for you to comment on or interact with to show that you have checked in for the day!

Any students in grades 7-12 who want to be on the golf team this year, please send an email to either Mr. Cooper or Miss Palczewski to be added to the golf group on Microsoft Teams. We are going to send activities and exercises for you to work on at home. Then, hopefully we will be able to get on the course and have some tournaments soon!

Update (March 29th): We are excited to start week 2 of Distance Learning! Last week, teachers asked students to connect with them and get started with some basic assignments. We saw great participation from a majority of students and families! Those who havenโt made contact online will be contacted tomorrow to make sure we have all of our students connected! Instructional packets will be sent home tomorrow following the bus routes, but students should NOT send work back. If work needs to be returned, it should be done online or by sending a picture. This is also the last week that students in grades 6-12 will get packets sent home. After this week, all instruction will be done online, with the exception of elementary students who will continue to receive instructional packets each week.
Students in grades 6-12 will start completing all of their class work through Microsoft Teams. In order to track attendance and keep all classes information in one location, we have implemented the following schedule for grades 6-12:
Monday: Receive instructional materials and look over what is coming up for the week.
Tuesday: Periods 1, 3, 5, 7
Wednesday: Periods 2, 4, 6, 8
Thursday: Periods 1, 3, 5, 7
Friday: Periods 2, 4, 6, 8
**Each day that the class period meets, students will check in to each class at any time between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Teachers will track attendance by making sure students check in to their class (interacting with a post on the classโ Team). For example, if you are in English 5th period, you would check in on Tuesdays and Thursdays at some point between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. in order to be counted present for those days. If you donโt check in, you will be marked absent according to our existing attendance policy.
Each teacher will only be assigning a maximum of TWO assignments each week which will be posted on Teams. This should help students organize and plan for the school work they need to complete throughout the week.
Please refer to the new โDistance Learningโ page on the website to view South Prairieโs Distance Learning Plan which was approved by DPI and other helpful information like more details on the plan for 6-12 and how to use Microsoft Teams.

Daily Update (March 27th):ย ย We will continue our Offsite Distance Learning next week.ย Packets are ready for delivery on Monday.ย On Sunday evening, we will let you know more specific details on the distance learning plan moving forward! Students should continue to stay in contact with your teachers.ย All work should be kept at home, please send your teachers pictures, scans, or complete the work online.
Parents, we ask that any library or bookmobile books that need to be returned should be placed in a plastic bag and returned to the bus drivers on Monday.

Update (March 26th): We have submitted our Distance Learning Plan, and we are waiting for approval. We will update everyone with more details once we have been approved.
We are asking all families to complete a follow-up survey to give us more information for the lunch delivery program and about how the students are doing with making contact with their teachers. To complete the survey, use the following link: https://tinyurl.com/ru6ww2t

Today we delivered all personal belongings from the studentsโ lockers. If you were not able to receive your locker materials, please contact the school to make sure the bus brings it on the lunch delivery route this week.
Students, please make sure you are continuing to do the work that your teachers assigned for the week. For grades 6-12, we are asking students to check in with their teachers according to their teachersโ directions. Teachers have noted that a lot of the high school students and some middle school students still havenโt checked in with their teachers. Please check the Teacher Pages section of the school website if you need a reminder of what youโre supposed to complete this the week for each class.
Thank you to everyone for your cooperation with this first week of distance learning at South Prairie!

Daily Update (March 24th): This week, teachers have made contact with students digitally. Students, make sure you get connected with your teachers by following the method that they directed. There is a โDistance Learningโ button at the top of the school website that will take you to a page with major updates in South Prairieโs distance learning process along with some helpful links. (Students who need to access Microsoft Teams should view the student help guide on this page)
Parents, please understand that our goal is not to have your kids on the computer for an extended period of time. Our teachers have done a great job at assigning work that should be manageable for students and allow them to share devices within your household. Once we have made sure that everyone in our district has devices to use, we can reevaluate those who need an extra device.
Tomorrow, we will deliver personal belongings from lockers by following the same drop-off process we did on Monday. Look for another survey to come out at the end of the week in which we will ask for feedback on the distance education process and follow up with more questions about connectivity and lunches.

Update (March 23rd): Thank you to everyone for your cooperation with delivering instructional materials today! Tomorrow, we will attempt to deliver to the few who didnโt receive their packets today.
On Wednesday, we will deliver any remaining personal belongings from studentsโ lockers. We will deliver the personal belongings on the bus routes the same way we delivered instructional packets today. Also, if you still want to be added to the lunch list, please contact the school!
Students, please continue to reach out to your teachers through the electronic method that your teachers directed.
*Students in grades 6-12, many of your teachers will be using Microsoft Teams. So, please check your Outlook email inbox for an email from Ms. Palczewski on how to download and activate Microsoft Teams on your computers.

Here is a Monday morning message from Mr. Routledge!
https://youtu.be/QtqyDNVGZxU
Make sure you're ready to receive your instructional packet today and stay tuned for an update this evening!

Students and Parents - Tomorrow will be the 1st day of Offsite Distance Education for South Prairie.ย Bus drivers and para educators will be delivering packets and textbooks to everyone. Please expect them to arrive 4 hours after your normal pick up time. Everyone that is on a route will have them delivered to your normal pick up spot. The one exception is that all K-Mart and YMCA students will need to meet at the YMCA between 11:30 & 1:30, those of you that are not on a country route and drive daily, expect your packet to be delivered to the YMCA.
Our goal this week it to provide educational opportunities to each and every student. For this to happen, our #1 priority this week is to touch base with all students and see that everyone is able to connect though the online methods your childโs teacher will be using.ย SRT will be providing free internet access to those that do not currently have access. Jen and Nancy will be calling all families that did not respond to our first survey where we asked about internet connections and devices capable of accessing the internet.
The USDA is providing Free Lunch, Breakfast, and Snacks to all children 18 and under. ย Please connect the school on Monday to be put on the list. ย We will do our best to send lunches tomorrow if you contact the school before 9:30 am. ย
Please look at this week as a learning opportunity for both your children and the teachers. Feedback from you will help in seeing that all of your children are challenged educationally and continue to make progress in this online service. Later this week, teachers will ask for specific feedback and the district will have more broad questions for you as well. Together we will make the best of this situation. ย
I have always lived by the motto: โIn every disaster there lies an opportunity.โ For the students and staff of South Prairie, the COVID-19 pandemic is giving us the opportunity to broaden our teaching and learning styles and, most importantly, continue to grow as a family.
Mr. Stanley, Superintendent

CLARIFICATION: Everyone that is currently on a bus route, open enrolled or not, will have their packets delivered on their bus route. Those that are open-enrolled and normally drive to school will pick up their packets at the YMCA from 11:30 to 1:30.

UPDATE (March 20th): On Monday, March 23rd, we will begin delivering instructional activities through an Offsite Distance Education Model. Materials will be delivered to each household by following the bus routes. The bus will stop four hours after the normal time. Students that are open enrolled will pick up their instructional materials at the YMCA from 11:30 to 1:30.
Each student will receive a packet that includes materials from their teachers to work on for the week and a bag with their textbooks. Students will follow directions according to their teacherโs instructions on how to complete the activties.
Every teacher will also post materials on their Teacher Page that can be found on the school website. (Go to https://www.south-prairie.k12.nd.us/ โ Main MenuโTeacher PagesโTeacherโs Name)
Lunches will continue to be delivered each day as they have been. If you would like to sign up for lunches and havenโt already, please call the school. Lunches are available for anyone in the household who is under 18.
Thank you to SRT and The National Guard for donating bags and Market Place and Cashwise for donating boxes to help us get materials delivered!

Update (March 19th): Based on Governor Burgumโs proclamation that school will be suspended another 7 days (until April 1st), we will continue to develop our Offsite Distance Education Model. Look for our daily briefings as this plan develops.

There will be a special March board meeting at 6:00 p.m. tonight (March 19th, 2020).
Use the following link to join the meeting:
https://zoom.us/j/128239512

We want to remind all students and parents to stay home and not try to enter the school. Teachers and staff are working to prepare for all possible scenarios. Please look for our daily updates that will be posted each day by 5:00.

Update (March 18th): The South Prairie staff is continuing to prepare our distance education instructional plan. Today was the first day we delivered lunches and it went well. If you want to be added or removed from the lunch list, make sure you call the school.

Update (March 17th): The South Prairie Staff has met today and started developing a plan for instruction if school closures would extend past this week. Tomorrow, we will start delivering lunches to those who requested them by following the bus routes. The lunches will arrive at your stop four hours after your normal bus pickup time. For example, if your child is normally picked up at about 7:15, then you should expect lunches to be delivered at approximately 11:15. The Kmart and YMCA stops will both pick up lunches at the Y from 11:30 to 12:30. If you were not able to fill out the survey or request lunches, please contact the school or fill out the survey that is linked at the bottom of this post.
Also, just as another reminder, all practices and competitions have been suspended indefinitely by the NDHSAA. This includes fine arts music festivals and contests, FBLA, FFA, and archery. We will keep you informed about other events as we find out more information.

The 9th grade class made Shakespearean masks as an artifact in their gang colors for their Romeo and Juliet unit! They are competing against two other groups in their class from the play in several competitions, this being just one. The three gangs are the Capulets (red and yellow), Veronians (neon pink and yellow), and the Montagues (blue and green). Each member created masks and the strongest mask from each gang faces off in a competition judged by dignitaries of South Prairie School.
The students learned that the use of masks during Shakespeareโs plays were for purposes of flirtation for the young people, for fashion of the time, and to protect the wealthy from the sun. Some of the masks will be donated to childrenโs theatre groups or the 2nd Story Social Club for their annual prom!

Preschool and Kindergarten parents,
The ND Department of Public Instruction in cooperation with NDSU are involved with the Preschool Development Grant project and request your input via a survey.
The purpose of this survey is to learn more about family engagement opportunities and transitions through the ages of Birth to Kindergarten entry (ages 0-6). The information that we receive from you will help us to develop better resources and communication tools for parents of young children. This brief survey is just 6 questions.

Forms will be sent home with all students, you can print this form, or you can pick one up in the high school office! To order, bring your form and payment to the high school office (elementary students can turn it in to their teacher) by November 18th!

On Thursday (11/7) there will be a Teen Maze activity for the high school students. Teen Maze demonstrates the emotional, physical, and financial consequences of the choices and chances students may face as teenagers. This event provides another venue for students to practice healthy decision-making, explore critical information, and connect what has already been taught in the classroom to real life situations.
We want to inform the public that this will be going on and that there will be emergency vehicles and possibly a helicopter in the school parking lot during this event.

If you attended parent-teacher conferences but didn't get a chance to fill out our family engagement survey, here is the link to complete the survey:
