Parents/Guardians/Fans,
As we enter post season play for our Girls and Boys basketball teams, we want to take a moment to remind everyone of the importance of positive sportsmanship and representing our school and community with pride at all athletic events.
At South Prairie School, we believe that sports are not just about winning or losing but about character building, teamwork, and respect. As parents, you play a crucial role in shaping the experiences of our student-athletes both on and off the field. Your support and encouragement contribute significantly to creating a positive environment for everyone involved.
We kindly ask that you uphold the following principles:
1. Positive Attitude: Regardless of the outcome of the game, maintain a positive attitude towards players, coaches, officials, and opposing teams. Cheer loudly for our team while showing respect for the efforts of the opposing players.
2. Respect for Officials: Remember that officials are human and, like all of us, are susceptible to making mistakes. Refrain from questioning their decisions or displaying disrespectful behavior towards them. Let's set an example of good sportsmanship by accepting their calls graciously, even if we may disagree.
3. Role Modeling: As parents, you serve as role models for our student-athletes. Your behavior in the stands reflects directly on our school and community. Let's demonstrate the values of respect, integrity, and sportsmanship that we aim to instill in our students.
4. Supportive Environment: Create a supportive and inclusive environment for all spectators. Encourage fellow parents to join you in fostering a positive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and valued.
5. Encouragement: Offer words of encouragement to all players, not just your own child. Recognize their efforts, hard work, and improvement, regardless of the outcome of the game.
By adhering to these principles, we can ensure that our athletic events are enjoyable and enriching experiences for all involved. Let's come together as a community to support our student-athletes and promote the values of sportsmanship, respect, and unity.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support. Together, we can make this post season a memorable and positive one for our student-athletes.
Go Royals!
Sincerely,
Wayne Stanley, Superintendent
