As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, schools across the nation are seeing disruptions in their supply and distribution channels. Here at South Prairie Schools, we are seeing the same problems. Our current distributor has dropped all of their school accounts in ND, SD, and MN. We have been able to secure a new vendor; sadly, it is resulting in frequent menu changes, reduced menu variety, and changes in meal service options. These problems are related to supply-chain backlogs, which plague the entire system. The most common problems are discontinued menu items, shortages, longer-than-normal lead times, significantly higher costs compared with pre-pandemic bids, delayed deliveries, or deliveries that contain a fraction of what was ordered.   Like all schools, we are facing enormous challenges in offering consistent menus and meals. When menu changes occur, we make all attempts to notify students the day before. Please keep an eye on the school’s app (Dining section of the main menu), we will continue to post menu changes as they occur. Thank you for your patience and support.

Just a note to our fans, students, and parents: Kids are not allowed to stay at the school until the football game. They must go home, either on the bus or get a ride, and then they can return later for the game. Also, from now on, at all home volleyball and basketball games, kids must sit in the stands and be supervised. They are not allowed to run around or hang out in the commons area without supervision.

Tonight the varsity football team takes on WGN at home starting at 7:00 p.m. ! Tonight is also the Little Royals night for football and cheerleading! All kids who are participating should meet at 6:15 (cheerleaders in front of the bleachers and football players at the west end zone). This event will run from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Tonight is also the night that one lucky person will be drawn to have a chance to kick a field goal and win some cash for themselves and our school! You can register at the ticket booth as you enter the game or at the concession stand after the game starts. If you make the field goal, you get $200 and our school gets $1000. You can also choose to have someone else kick it for you and split the $200.

South Prairie Parents, A partnership between a school district and its families is key to ensuring that students are making choices that are in their best interest. That’s why South Prairie School Administration and School Board are joining together in this message. A series of monthly pranks or “challenges” is spreading on the social media platform, TikTok. These include a list of actions users are being encouraged to participate in that may be dangerous, inappropriate, or illegal.   The challenge for October asks students to “Slap a Teacher.” Last month, TikTok users were challenged to destroy restrooms and other school property. While the October “challenge” has not happened at South Prairie School, we did see damage to some of our restrooms. As a school district, we want our students and families to know this behavior will not be tolerated. We ask that you monitor your children social media accounts, talk to them about responsible and respectful cell phone use, and discuss the consequences of participating in these “challenges” such as suspension or expulsions from school, paying restitution, as well as possible criminal charges.   That being said, we know that the vast majority of our students do the right thing every day, are proud of their school, and grateful for their teachers and custodial staff. We thank them for showing school pride and valuing their school culture.   The safety of all students and staff is always our first priority. Should you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s principal or superintendent. Thank you for your support and cooperation.   Wayne Stanley, Superintendent
